Rene

Rene was found in Autumn 2012 by a Bianca volunteer who saw three people carrying a bag and dumping something on the ground.
After they had left, the volunteer went to see what it was and discovered that it was in fact something that vaguely resembled a poodle and one that had clearly been left to die. The dog was in a state of total panic, had a horribly matted coat and a severe eye infection, and had to be immediately sedated and taken to a Veterinary Hospital. After weeks of Veterinary treatment and love and care at Bianca Rene was ready for adoption and, now called Peathy, at last found herself in a lovely new home.
mister.jpg (25901 bytes) Mister
Mister is a six month old pup which arrived at the shelter half starved and in this terrible condition on 21 Janaury. Fortunately, as consequence of Veterinary treatment and Bianca care, he is well on the road to recovery and hopefully a loving new home.
rama.jpg (116752 bytes) Rama
Rama came to Bianca in November 2011 in this horrible condition, with a huge hernia in her stomach. Her eyes clearly show her pain and misery. Rama was immediately taken to the Vet for major surgery but is now making a good recovery.
rocky.jpg (43035 bytes) Rocky
Rocky, a four year old gentle beast with the saddest eyes you’ll ever see, was found in late November 2011 wandering the streets in this condition, the tumour from his chest almost touching the ground. He was immediately taken to the Vet where he underwent surgery but happily appears to be recovering well.
priscilao.jpg (50569 bytes) Priscila
Priscila, a beautiful pointer, was found in October 2011, so emaciated that she was barely able to walk. She was anaemic, suffered from two tick fevers and clearly starving. In Bianca’s care she is slowly regaining her strength and her spirit and hopefully before too long will find a loving new home.

Teddy Bear
Teddy Bear was found one Sunday morning in October 2011 eating the trash. He was diagnosed as suffering from thyroid and skin problem but thanks to treatment and care he’s recovering well as the second photograph happily shows.

Diva
Hard to believe from these photos but Diva is a Rottweiler X. She was found abandoned and in this disgusting condition in October 2011 in a Supermarket parking lot. With care, attention and love, she will hopefully recover soon.

Pepsi was found in late November 2011 in a remote area of forest, tied to a tree. If someone hadn’t come across him he would have either starved to death or been attacked and eaten by foxes. Fortunately he’s now in Bianca’s care.
Jeremias_3.jpg (9838 bytes) Jeremias
Jeremias was found as a kitten in Sesimbra with a badly wounded neck. At first, he was very scared and he did not let anyone touch him but after a few weeks of care and kindness, he became very gentle. He is fostered but Bianca continue to hope for a permanent home for him.

Robby
Robby
was found in May 2011 in this disgusting condition. His hair was matted so badly that he had difficulty walking and he had clearly been starving for some time. Bianca treated a tumour on his lip but sadly because of neglect it was too late to save his sight. But despite all his problems, there was a happy ending and Robby has a great new home.

A Visit To The Shelter
In early July, Mike had the opportunity to visit the Bianca Shelter in Sesimbra. They were overwhelmed with the number of dogs who were being cared for with such love and attention and totally impressed by how well and efficiently the shelter was being run. Seeing Bianca first hand, Mike became even more aware of the ongoing needs of the organization and improvements necessary to provide for so many animals. Recently, in a two week period, Bianca received 20 additional dogs into the shelter prompting Ana Durate to say, “Where are we going to put these poor animals?” But as always, no animal in need is turned away and a place was found for them.

Below are a few pictures from Mike’s visit.
